Adolescent Program

Focus

Aiken Center Adolescent Program provides a wide variety of services for adolescents ranging from providing psychoeducation to treatment for substance related issues. The program serves individuals who range in age from 12 to 18 years old, typically those in middle and high school. Adolescents are educated on the effects, risks and impacts of engagement in substance use. They learn to recognize high-risk situations and are taught alternative activities or coping skills that can be utilized in place of substance use. Adolescents also learn ways to handle peer pressure and healthier ways to communicate. We offer family services and encourage family involvement through collaboration in treatment planning and providing family support and/or therapy. Evidence has shown that family involvement in a child or adolescent’s treatment increases the likelihood of successful outcomes.

Admission Information

Referrals for adolescent services are welcomed but are not required to engage in services at the Aiken Center. Appointments are not required as our individual orientations and assessments are conducted on a walk-in basis. Walk-in hours are 8:30am and 1pm Monday-Thursday. Please bring your Picture ID, insurance or Medicaid cards and your referral form from the referring agency. Patients 15 years old or younger must have a parent or legal guardian attend the first appointment. These appointments take approximately 3 hours.

Intake and Assessment

Adolescents and their families will receive an individual orientation prior to assessment. A member of our staff will provide brief information on treatment, discuss Aiken Center policies and obtain consent for treatment. A clinical counselor will conduct an individual comprehensive assessment. Following the individual assessment, the counselor will discuss recommendations.

Orientation and Treatment Planning

Each adolescent and their family will have an Adolescent Program Orientation in which the family will be provided information regarding services, answer any questions and collaborate with Clinical Counselor to create treatment goals. All services are based on the needs of the individual and the family.

Adolescent Services

Adolescents will engage in a combination of individual, group and family sessions. All services will be discussed during program orientation and frequency of services will vary based on need.

  • Individual sessions are offered in person and via telehealth, if appropriate and are 1 hour in length.
  • Group sessions are conducted one day a week for 1.5 hours. Groups take place at Aiken Center.
  • Individual family sessions are 1 hour in length and family group services range between 1.5 and 2 hours.

Service Termination and Discharge

Completion of treatment goals will be determined by Adolescent, their parent (if under 16 years of age) and Clinical Counselor. Adolescents and their families are vital to the success of treatment and will always have a voice in treatment services. As a part of discharge, the counselor will work to provide referrals to additional service providers or community resources to aid in the ongoing wellness of the adolescent and family.
